![]() Do-gooders? Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 - NIV Thessaloniki is a town in Greece northeast of Athens. At the time of Paul, it was still common for people to inscribe 'cursing prayers' on 'curse tablets' seeking divine intervention in disagreements. For example, 'I entrust to you this impious and lawless and accursed Cardelus ... so may you bring him to a bed of punishment, to be punished with an evil death, and die within five days. Quickly! Quickly! ' The idea of reconciliation was a rather novel idea! Paul's suggestion is that we answer evil with good, not more evil. Easier said than done, so today let us pray for the strength to act more like Jesus would whenever we are wronged. Revd. Steve
