Please see the photos below from the Christmas Tree Festival. We are very grateful to all the local organisations who took the time to provide some lovely and unusual trees! It was also nice to welcome the many visitors who came into the church during the viewing times. ![]() Do-gooders? Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 - NIV Thessaloniki is a town in Greece northeast of Athens. At the time of Paul, it was still common for people to inscribe 'cursing prayers' on 'curse tablets' seeking divine intervention in disagreements. For example, 'I entrust to you this impious and lawless and accursed Cardelus ... so may you bring him to a bed of punishment, to be punished with an evil death, and die within five days. Quickly! Quickly! ' The idea of reconciliation was a rather novel idea! Paul's suggestion is that we answer evil with good, not more evil. Easier said than done, so today let us pray for the strength to act more like Jesus would whenever we are wronged. Revd. Amen. 2 Timothy 4:18 - NIV This verse reminds us, as we anticipate the celebration of Christ's coming, that following the way of Christ in our lives will succeed in achieving God's plan for us. It is not a promise that it will be easy or that we will escape hardships- rather it is a promise that, in the end , God will embrace us and make a home for us. Revd. Steve A picture tells a story. The Christmas Dinner for members of the congregation took place at the Elephant and Castle, Hemingfield on 4th December 2024. Good food and good company was enjoyed by all at what is hoped to be the first event of many! A Christmas quiz was also held with the inaugural Champions of 2024 being Margaret and Andrew.

Proverbs 30:8 - NIV Perhaps a forerunner of The Lord's prayer in its simple request for daily bread. Who hasn't dreamt of winning a few million on the lottery? Who hasn't had some form of the nightmare of what it would be like to lose their livelihood and fall into poverty? And yet Jesus tells us not to preoccupy ourselves with material concerns, for God, will provide. Matthew 6:26: "Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" We don't yet live in the world that God desires for us. Many still go hungry because of the unjust distribution of wealth and the greed of a handful of leaders. Nevertheless we are asked to be people who do what they can , where they can, to bring forth a new dawn where all have enough. God looks to us. Fr Steve |
