![]() Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:46 - NIV Almighty Father, look with mercy on this your family for which our Lord Jesus Christ was willingly betrayed and given up into the hands of sinners and to suffer death upon the cross; who is alive and glorified with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AGAPE MEAL & SERVICE ![]() Our Agape celebrated Communion as part of a meal. It was held in the Parish Hall to echo the domestic household atmosphere of Communion in the early Church - this proved to be a very successful evening enjoyed by members of both Holy Trinity Elsecar and our Sister Church Worsbrough St Mary's - see the slide show below. Agape (pronounced ag-a-pay) simply means 'love.' Our Agape looked back to the Last Supper. Jesus celebrated this with his disciples just before his arrest. He changed the symbolic meaning of what was probably a Passover Meal and so giving us the Communion Service. May the Lord make Himself known to you through the breaking of bread. ![]() My Favourite Words Jesus answered, It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Matthew 4:4 - NIV Anyone watching the news at the moment concerning US tariffs would be forgiven if they think that all that matters is money and trade. In the upside down world of Jesus , it is people that matter. Wouldn't it be great if countries competed with one another in areas such as how much they had addressed poverty, sickness, violence and CO2 emissions? In truth, for true followers of Jesus, we are only ever as rich as the poorest and most marginalised member of our community. These are the words that come out of the mouth of Jesus, his favourite words - love, mercy, forgiveness to the repentant, generosity and justice. Let us pray today that the Lord shows each one of us a way to make the world a better place, where we can and as we can. Revd Steve |
