![]() An enemy? But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44 - NIV If we take this literally then most of us would find this command impossible to follow. Few of us, I think, have enemies. Nevertheless there may be people in our lives who are problematic e.g. neighbours, relatives, work colleagues. Christian love would have us treat them as a child of God no matter how they behave, treat them as you would have them treat you, and model a better way. Finally, pray for those who trouble you that they may seek harmony and peace instead of disagreement and friction. Pray also that God gives you the wisdom to see your own contribution to discord and grace to change.. Reverend Steve ![]() Better than splendour and wealth How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver! Proverbs 16:16 - NIV This verse is a reminder to us all that the accumulation of wisdom and understanding will make us much richer than any material wealth we might accrue in our lives can ever do. Wisdom and understanding will guide our thoughts and our actions and, ultimately, lead us to be more Christlike in character. Such wealth is lasting and not fleeting. Today, let's pray for God's spirit to come and aid us in our spiritual growth. Revd Steve VE Day is this coming Thursday when church bells will be rung all across the country at 6.30pm. To commemorate it we have our own display which will be available to view in church up until and including Thursday. See images below.
He is risen indeed Alleluiah . . . The Easter Sunday Service took place today. A joyful occasion shared by a large congregation including hymns and a special offering from the choir. Refreshments were served afterwards. Easter bonnets provided, courtesy of Margaret from Church Mice Milliners! A brief insight of the morning is shared below... ![]() Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:46 - NIV Almighty Father, look with mercy on this your family for which our Lord Jesus Christ was willingly betrayed and given up into the hands of sinners and to suffer death upon the cross; who is alive and glorified with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AGAPE MEAL & SERVICE ![]() Our Agape celebrated Communion as part of a meal. It was held in the Parish Hall to echo the domestic household atmosphere of Communion in the early Church - this proved to be a very successful evening enjoyed by members of both Holy Trinity Elsecar and our Sister Church Worsbrough St Mary's - see the slide show below. Agape (pronounced ag-a-pay) simply means 'love.' Our Agape looked back to the Last Supper. Jesus celebrated this with his disciples just before his arrest. He changed the symbolic meaning of what was probably a Passover Meal and so giving us the Communion Service. May the Lord make Himself known to you through the breaking of bread. ![]() My Favourite Words Jesus answered, It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Matthew 4:4 - NIV Anyone watching the news at the moment concerning US tariffs would be forgiven if they think that all that matters is money and trade. In the upside down world of Jesus , it is people that matter. Wouldn't it be great if countries competed with one another in areas such as how much they had addressed poverty, sickness, violence and CO2 emissions? In truth, for true followers of Jesus, we are only ever as rich as the poorest and most marginalised member of our community. These are the words that come out of the mouth of Jesus, his favourite words - love, mercy, forgiveness to the repentant, generosity and justice. Let us pray today that the Lord shows each one of us a way to make the world a better place, where we can and as we can. Revd Steve ![]() You are cordially invited to our drop-in, today starting at 2.00pm. Come along for a chat, hava a cuppa and make new friends. Every-one welcome! ![]() Good food... ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good’ (Psalm 34.8). This sounds as though being nourished by God gives pleasure as well as sustenance. Jesus says that he is our true food. The word made flesh, broken for us, is the source of real food that nourishes, sustains and delights us. What are the ways that we can ‘feed’ on him? If Jesus is our true food, perhaps there are other things that falsely claim to feed us. So, what else might we be relying on for that which Jesus best supplies? How might we recognise and acknowledge Christ in life’s pleasures, and in the people and things that give us support and help us to flourish? Revd Steve |
